The Undara Lava Tubes are a must-see attraction on any Outback Queensland and Gulf Savannah itinerary. The Undara Lava Tubes are set amongst the savannah grasslands in the Undara Volcanic National Park, which is a 3.5 hour drive southwest of Cairns and/or 5 hour drive northwest from Townsville, depending on your direction of travel. Access to the tubes is by guided tour only, to protect the sensitive environment and ensure visitor safety, and our Undara Lava Tube Tours are family friendly and provide the very best value for money.
When Sir David Attenborough visited the Undara Lava Tubes, he described them as being one of the most “unexplored geological features of the earth” and declared that Undara should be the eighth Wonder of the World.
On our 3 hour Undara Lava Tube tours, you’ll explore 3 or more of the tunnels, including the showcase Arch Complex incorporating the Archway, Ewamian and Stephensons Tubes and stopping of at another outreaching cave. An air-conditioned coach will take you into the National Park and our experienced guides will share stories of the history and geology of the lava tubes. On arrival it’s off the bus and into the lava tube, where you’ll learn more and be surrounded by the cavernous rock walls, which are marbled with mineral colours and shaped by the flow of the long-since-gone lava.
Please note access to the Undara Lava Tubes is by guided tour only. Tour numbers and guests are limited to ensure maximum comfort and experience for participants. Advance bookings are essential. The tours depart at 9.30am and 1.30pm daily. Each paying Adult receives a Free souvenir torch. Tour Prices: Adult $120 ,Children $60, Family $310 *Children aged 5 - 15 years (Children 0 - 4 years are free). Family rate is 2 Adults & up to 4 Children (0 - 15 years) from the one family. Each paying Adult receives a Free souvenir torch. When booking online please enter TOTAL number of guests (Adults & Kids) to ensure you've booked everyone in.
